Welcome to Morel Mushroom.
If you’ve found your way here, chances are you’re curious—about psychedelics, about consciousness, about healing, or maybe just about the strange and beautiful ways nature expresses itself. That curiosity is what brought me here too.
My name is Gertrude Palmer, and Morel Mushroom began as a quiet personal project—an online notebook where I could explore my thoughts, research, and experiences with psychedelics in a way that felt honest and grounded. Over time, it grew into something more: a space for reflection, learning, and conversation with others who share a similar sense of wonder.
I didn’t come to this world through trend or hype. My interest in psychedelics developed slowly, over years of reading, listening, and carefully stepping into experiences that challenged how I understood myself and reality. Like many people, I was first drawn in by questions—about mental health, about perception, about whether there might be more to consciousness than what we’re taught to accept at face value. Psychedelics didn’t give me simple answers, but they opened doors I didn’t know existed, and that alone was enough to keep me exploring.
Morel Mushroom is where I try to make sense of those explorations.
Here, I write about psychedelics from multiple angles. Some posts dive into the science—how different compounds interact with the brain, what current research is uncovering, and where things might be headed in the future. Other pieces are more reflective, exploring personal experiences, integration, and the emotional or philosophical questions that often follow a journey. I also spend time discussing safety, intention, and responsibility, because I believe these substances deserve respect, not casual treatment.
You’ll also find content that touches on culture and history—how psychedelics have been used across different traditions, how modern perspectives are evolving, and how conversations around these topics are changing in real time. I’m particularly interested in bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and contemporary understanding, without romanticizing either.
My connection to this space is deeply personal. Psychedelics have, at times, helped me confront parts of myself I would have otherwise avoided. They’ve pushed me to reconsider long-held beliefs, to sit with discomfort, and to approach life with a little more humility and curiosity. That doesn’t mean every experience has been easy—or even positive—but even the difficult moments have carried lessons that stayed with me long after.
This blog isn’t about promoting or persuading. It’s about exploring. I don’t claim to have all the answers, and I’m cautious of anyone who says they do. What I can offer is a thoughtful, honest perspective shaped by experience, research, and ongoing learning.
If you choose to spend time here, you can expect writing that’s reflective, grounded, and occasionally a bit wandering—because this is a subject that doesn’t always fit into neat boxes. You’ll find careful discussions rather than sensational claims, questions as often as conclusions, and a genuine effort to treat this topic with the nuance it deserves.
More than anything, I hope this space feels human. A place where curiosity is welcomed, where complexity isn’t avoided, and where it’s okay not to have everything figured out.
Thanks for being here.
